The Queensland Women’s Academy will travel to Melbourne Friday for a high performance camp.
The camp includes two games against the AFL Victoria Women’s Academy on March 18 at Whitten Oval, and March 20 at Punt Road.
The weekend will also include player education and recovery sessions on Saturday morning at the Richmond Football Club.
Former Australian netballer Sharelle McMahon will speak to players from both states about the professional standards required in elite sport, the AFL Players Association will deliver information in preparation for the National League, and the AFL will run an education session on appropriate use of social media.
The squad was selected with an eye to those in line for state selection later this year, whilst also rewarding players who have excelled at Academy training across the summer.
AFL Queensland Female High Performance Manager, Craig Starcevich, is excited by what the weekend will bring.
“This trip is a great opportunity for our players to test themselves against the best prior to a busy schedule of games this year leading into the National League,” Starcevich said.
“Most pleasing is the number of players new to this level which builds the depth of talent Queensland will require heading into this new era of female football.”
