After watching of countless games of junior and senior footy this year and much deliberation and the initial 2016 squads for the Hyundai Help for Kids Brisbane Lions Academy have been announced.
As is the case every year number of new players have been added to the program based on their performances at club, regional or state level games while at the same time a number of boys will drop out of the program for various reasons.
To those players no longer involved – thank you for your involvement in our program. We hope that we have helped provide you with a suitable training environment and education to improve yourself on & off the football field and wish you all the best for your future football career.
On the back of what is arguably to our most successful year talent wise for the program as outlined below, the Academy will continue to set high standards for our players, coaches and staff in order to develop players in our program that can go on to emulate Academy graduates Jono Freeman, Harris Andrews and Liam Dawson and play at the elite level in the Brisbane Lions senior team.
Talent Achievements in 2016:
- QLD U18 and U16 state team’s winning the Div. 2 National Championships
- 5 x 18yr old Lions Academy boys invited to the AFL Draft Combine and a further 3 boys invited to the NEAFL State Combine
- 4 Lions Academy boys selected in the AFL National Academy for 2015-16
Summer pre-season training for the 16-18yr olds will commence in the coming weeks and build up as summer progresses.
The younger Academy boys are encouraged to keep playing their chosen summer sports & get involved in their respective AFLQ Regional Talent Development programs before starting Academy training in late January/early Feb next year.
