Mark your calendars – the return of Queensland community footy is right around the corner and the dates for QFAW Division 2 season 2023 have just been locked in.
Both the Division 2 North and South competitions will kick off on April 22 with each team playing 14 matches across the 18-week seasons.
A Grand Final rematch between Pine Rivers and Noosa will headline Round 1 of QFAW Div 2 North.
This year will see the reintroduction of Moorooka after the team went through a rebuilding phase throughout 2022.
The Gympie Cats will enter the QFAW Div 2 North comp this year after previously competing in the Wide-Bay competition.
In the south, 10 teams will feature in the QFAW Division 2 2023 fixture with last year’s premiers, the Byron Bay Magpies returning to the Northern Rivers competition.
Palm Beach Currumbin is also a new addition to the comp after they were granted a new license.
This year will see the return of Jimboomba after a one-year break, plus the addition of Mt Gravatt and Burleigh from Division 1.
QFAW Competition Manager, Grace Winch, said she was excited to see what the new makeup of the teams would mean for both competitions.
“Anytime teams enter or re-enter a competition it’s interesting to watch how the dynamic changes,” she said.
“There has been a far bit of movement, which creates for lots of opportunity for new and returning sides.
“The competition is shaping up to be very strong across both divisions this year, so it’ll be anyone’s game.
“In Div 2 South, we have back-to-back premiers Byron Bay returning to the Northern Rivers competition which creates huge opportunity for the rest of the competition.”
All teams will get a mid-season rest for round 10 on June 24 to accommodate for the annual North Queensland and South Queensland representative clash.
Both competitions will celebrate the themed rounds in line with the rest of the state including Sir Doug Nicholls Rounds (five and six) and Pride Round on July 15.
Finals start on August 26 before the Grand Finals on Saturday, September 9 (Division 2 South) and Sunday, September 10 (Division 2 North).
