Twelve Queensland community football clubs have received a post-season bonus, thanks to the latest round of Gambling Community Benefit Fund grants announced last week.
The total amount allocated for AFL-related infrastructure was $278,220.45; funds State Infrastructure and Planning Manager Jake Anson said would give the green light to a number of high priority plans.
“There are several much-needed projects that will now proceed during the off-season including fencing ovals at Collingwood Park and Pac Pines, irrigation improvements at Mayne and Mt Gravatt, unisex amenities at Springwood, new goal posts at four Darling Downs ovals, and improved lighting at Maryborough to complement their forthcoming unisex amenities funded by the Bears’ successful application for $100,000 from Holden’s Home Ground Advantage program,” said Anson.
These, along with a further $20 million worth of grass-roots AFL infrastructure projects across Queensland, will be completed in time for the 2016 season.
Anson said the AFL would continue to invest alongside Government partners to ensure that the state’s football community enjoys the best quality venues possible.
“We are grateful to the Queensland Government for their continued support of community football clubs across the state,” he said.
“The AFL is committed to improving our community football facilities so that they meet modern community expectations and are suitable for the growing numbers of female footballers playing in Queensland.”
Clubs unsuccessful this round can take heart, applications remain eligible for the next round of funding to be announced in the New Year.
