AFL 9s will make it’s debut in the 2014 RACQ Insurance North Queensland Games to be held in Townsville from 4-6 of April.
The biennial North Queensland Games have been held since 1984 and are recognised as Australia’s largest regional multi-sport event.
Alternating between Townsville, Cairns and Mackay and covering a multitude of sports, this iconic event attracts more competitors than the Commonwealth Games.
AFL 9s will be played over two days 5-6 April in a round robin format in both open male and mixed divisions.
Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded to the champion teams however in the true spirit of AFL9s it is sure to be fun, fast and free-flowing for all competitors no matter where your team ends up on the ladder.
As well as the sporting competition, participants have the opportunity to be involved in the opening ceremony at the Townsville Sports Reserve, closing ceremony at the picturesque Strand Park and a variety of other community events during the games.
Townsville weather is always perfect during that time of the year so the North Queensland Games is a perfect excuse to take a North Queensland holiday.
