Queensland big men Jake Spencer and Lachy Keeffe took the next step down the AFL career path today when they were officially elevated to the senior lists of Melbourne and Collingwood respectively.

Spencer (right), from Townsville via Redland, has won an opportunity at the top level after eight senior games as a rookie in 2009-10.

Recently turned 21, the 203cm giant played six games in 2009 and two more before injury cut short his 2010 campaign.

In a significant vote of confidence from coach Dean Bailey, Spencer was elevated to the senior list as the club de-listed the more experienced ruckmen Paul Johnson and John Meesen.

Keeffe (left), from Gympie, has been rewarded for an outstanding season playing chiefly at centre half back with the Collingwood VFL side.

Originally signed by the Pies as an unregistered player in December 2007, officially became a Collingwood player via the 2009 AFL Rookie Draft and, with little football experience, has spent two years settling into the AFL system.

Originally tipped to be a ruckman at 204cm, the athletic 20-year-old excelled playing mainly at centre half back in the VFL this year.
