Barry Gibson appointed State Football Operations Manager

AFL Queensland has appointed Barry Gibson to the role of AFL Queensland State Football Operations Manager.

Barry brings to the role extensive Senior Management experience in both the sports industry and the private sector having held the following positions:

  • January 2015 – Current: General Manager – Tasmanian Football Council
  • 2008 – 2015 : Chief Executive Officer – Boulton Cleary & Kern Lawyers
  • 2006 – 2008: Chief Executive Officer – Team Melbourne Pty Ltd
  • 2002 – 2006 : Chief Executive Officer – Townsville Crocodiles (NBL)

Gibson said the opportunity to move back to Queensland was one that he couldn’t refuse.

“When this position arose it was one that I pursed as it allowed us as a family to return to Queensland,” he said.

In addition to Barry’s professional career he has also held voluntary roles at Community Club (President & Secretary) and League level in both Queensland and Tasmania.

Barry is a life member at the Rosebery-Toorak Football Club (Tasmania) and the Hermit Park Football Club (Queensland) having played over 420 senior games in both states.

Barry coached Hermit Park to a senior premiership in 2012, was appointed the North Queensland Coach in 2014 and named the AFL Queensland Senior Representative Coach of the Year that year.

Barry will commence in the role on Monday 15th February.
