Helensvale’s Posts Go Up

Helensvale State High School are the latest Queensland school to put up AFL posts on their oval.

The old rugby league posts were cleared away to make way for a home ground for the school’s super successful AFL program.

The posts went up just in time to host Helensvale’s Round One matches of the Schools of Excellence Cup against Park Ridge State High School from Brisbane.

The Senior Helensvale AFL Girls played a curatin-raiser to the day, before the Junior Boys match commenced at 11:00am.

It was a one-sided affair with the home team too strong for the visitors.

For Helensvale Henderson, Mullins and Himberg were amongst a large group of their best while for Park Ridge, Maddison Warrington-Smith, Dylan Hautasu and Jarrod Fenton fought hard.

In the Seniors, it was a similar result with Helensvale once against prooving their strenth through the likes of Matt Watmuff, Jack Bristow, Michael Crewes and Ben McIntosh.

For Park Ridge, Josh Sciberras, Harry Raw and Matt Ollington were strong performers.

Next Round Park Ridge will host newcomers Benowa State High at Jimboomba AFC on 24th April, whilst Helensvale will travel south to Palm Beach in the great Gold Coast derby against traditional rival and fellow-powerhouse Palm Beach-Currumbin State High Wednesday night 18th April at Salk Oval.
