AFLW star presents Toowoomba Tigers with their Indigenous guernseys for Sir Doug Nicholls Round

The unveiling of the Toowoomba Tigers Indigenous guernsey at training last night was made a little extra special with a visit from AFLW Premiership winning player Dakota Davidson.

The Brisbane Lions superstar and proud Gunditjmara/Ngarrindjeri woman, presented the guernseys to the Tigers’ women’s side, who’ll wear them in their Sir Doug Nicholls Round match against the South Toowoomba Bombers this Saturday.

“It was super humbling and a very special occasion. I was stoked to be involved in such a great community,” said Davidson.

“Presenting the guernseys was amazing and I loved every minute of it. The girls were so lovely and welcoming and there’s such a fantastic feeling within the club.”

The Tigers Indigenous guernsey was designed by Matt and Ambrose from MA Deadly Art. The design represents the Gowrie River following through the country, with references to both the proud Indigenous men and women who have gathered on the land as well as the strong men and women who make up the club today.

“It looks unreal, and it’s such a great way to capture the true beauty of the native Toowoomba land and table top mountains,” said Davidson.

Dakota assisted in the senior women’s training and was also on hand for a question and answer session with the Tigers’ youth grades, where she shared her AFLW Premiership medal and the 2021 Brisbane Lions Indigenous guernsey, which she designed.

She spent time explaining to the group the story behind her design, which was the Lions first ever AFLW Indigenous guernsey, and featured her Totem, along with the Totems of her teammates Ally Anderson and Courtney Hodder. It illustrates the story of two Mobs Gundmitjmarra and Ghungalu meeting together at the Club. (read more here)

As part of Sir Doug Nicholls Round, Toowoomba Tigers also took part in a Racism. It Stops With Me education session by AFL Queensland.

The Tigers and Bombers will face off at 12:45pm at  Rockville Oval on Saturday in a top of the table clash.
