AFLX to take centre stage across Queensland

The four goal posts and football might look familiar, but AFLX is no ordinary game, in fact it’s X-traordinary!

An exciting game created by the AFL, AFLX is all about showcasing some of the most thrilling elements of Australian football.

While this isn’t the first time the Sunshine State has seen the AFLX format introduced, it’s the first time all regions will be participating in the Term 4 summer series.

Participation and Programs Manager, Kath Newman said the alternate format of the game was all about driving new audiences to try the sport.

“The AFLX summer series provides an opportunity for players of all skill levels to be involved and play all year round.=,” she said.

“While there are some familiar aspects to the game, the new version provides players with a fun and different experience.”

There are some rules changes too;

  • AFLX is played on a rectangular soccer-sized pitch, allowing matches to be played on pitches that usually lack the suitable field dimensions for Australian rules football.
  • Teams are made up of 10 players with eight on the field at any one time.
  • Games are played in thirds across three zones on the field.
  • Designed X-factor players can score 10-point super goals with the score being reset at the end of each third and only the winner of the third is recorded.
