Nearly 15, 000 days since they claimed a Senior Premiership in 1982 defeating Morningside Panthers 18.17-125 v 14.11-95, the Mayne Football Club will come together to remember, recognise and celebrate that historic day.
This Saturday, May 28th, Mayne will host the Tigers’ Annual Reunion Day and this year marks 40 years since the ’82 flag was won.
Coached and led by the legendary Mick Nolan, the team was stacked with AFL’s greats including Andrew Ireland (Collingwood), Carl Herbert (Collingwood), Dale Woodhall (Collingwood), Gary Fitzpatrick (Essendon) and Tony Beckett (Brisbane).
President of the Mayne Australian Football Club, Russell Ditchburn, said the day would be a celebration of the club’s rich history and the impact Mick had on the club.
“We award a Mick Nolan Medal for the Best and Fairest Mayne player on the day and Mick’s widow, Nettie, presents the Medal,” he said.
“Mick passed away in May 2008 and we have awarded this medal since 2009. Mick’s eldest son, Ricky, will also be at the reunion this year.
“We will also be recognising our 1962 Premiership team, with some of the remaining players attending as well as the Banyo Bloods 1972 and 1982 Premiership teams.
“It is looking like a great day with Premiership Coach, player and three-time Club Champion Shaun Daly coming up from Albury to get together with his 2014 and 2015 Premiership teammates.”
In a special nod to Mick, Newstead Brewery will be serving up their Three Quarter Time Session Ale which provides a story about Mick on the can.
