SEQAFL Division 2 Rd 3 Review:
Caboolture vs. Kenmore

Caboolture 0.1, 1.5, 1.6, 5.8 (38)
Kenmore had a second-straight win, over Caboolture, on Saturday.
The Bears kept Caboolture goalless in the opening term, setting the tone for the rest of the match.
Caboolture continued to fight throughout the match, kicking five goals in the final term.
What the coaches said:
Tom Corless (Kenmore):
“I think the players are feeling more comfortable playing the grade. We’ve got a lot of young players playing senior footy for the first time. Whatever role they get, they take the challenge and they’re doing very well.”
“Younger sides tend to have bad games or good games, whereas older sides tend to have drop off periods within games.”
“Yesterday they were very good. Let’s see if they can do it again.”
“It was disappointing not to get a big score. They boys had doen a lot of work to get themselves into that position and kept the opposition’s score down. That’s (defensive work) what I’m chasing.”
Coorparoo vs. Alexandra Hills

Coorparoo notched up its first win of the Division 2 season, over Alex Hills.
The Kings looked a level above the inexperienced Bombers through the game and managed to stay in front for most of the day.
Teenagers Jesse Monkley and David Rowe had strong debuts, in a major positive for Alex Hills.

“We got beaten quite soundly, though we were still competitive through the whole game.”
“We were jut outplayed and outclassed.”
“They’ve been the best side for the last three years. We thought (going in) we were a chance to win the game, but we couldn’t getneat them, to be honest.”
Caloundra vs. Kedron

The return of captain-coach, James Debono , among others, boosted Kedron to its first win of the season on Saturday.
A half of football could not split the two sides, who went into the major break at 49-49, but the Lions did enough in the second half to put themselves ahead.
Caloundra’s Quinten Ross continued his scintillating form, kicking six for the Sunny Coast side.

“It was an arm wrestle all day.”
“I thought our guys got outplayed in the first quarter and then Caloundra got back into the game, they just had a bit more desire.”
“We were backing our own teammates in to win the footy. Last year ,we seemed to rush into a contest and then obviously the opposition was winning it out he back.
“We need to back our own teammates to win those one-on-one contests.”
“There are still two guys coming back into the side, but they’ve still got to play with everyone. They’re good players but they’ve still got to fit into the side and gel as a team – it can be a double-edged sword.”
Nambour vs. Aspley

Nambour clinched a thrilling two-point win over Aspley on Saturday.
The Hornets burst out of the blocks, with a five-goal-to-one first term, but Nambour clawed their way back into the contest.
A five-goal-to-none final term sealed the deal for the Sunny Coast side, who came back from 36 points down in the third quarter to claim its second straight win.

“We had the belief and it all just clicked in the last five minutes. The players we needed to play well shone in that last quarter.”
“Aspley had some really good midfielders that hurt us early but we started to really dominated clearances and got better forward entry.”
“I suppose it lets us know that we can compete with anyone at this level we believe in ourselves.
Yeah, they were. A lot of new players from a number of different clubs and they were saying it was one of the best wins they’ve been involved with for a while.”
The group responds well to instructions. Whatever we tell them, they do it, we jut need to do that from the start rather than re-adjusting at quarter and three-quarter time.”
“We stayed pretty calm (in the last few minutes) and it was a bit bizarre. We Always felt we could win and then all of a sudden we realised we were two goals down and we really could do it.”
“It was hectic.”
Redcliffe vs. Wynnum

Redcliffe enjoyed its largest win in Division two on Saturday, over struggling Wynnum.
The Tigers’ Jason Apps kicked four in the win, while Brett Somers was a key part of the win.
The win puts Redcliffe second on the ladder after being elevated from Division three at the start of the season.
What the coaches said:
Steve Jenkins ( Redcliffe)
“We didn’t make any assumptions going into the game. Even if Wynnum are easy beats, we don’t have any right to assume that we can beat them. They’re established and we needed to make sure that we didn’t give them a chance (to win).”
“We stayed focused on our core roles. We didn’t carry on – just stuck to the hard work we’d been doing.”
“(Complacency) was my concern at quarter time but we have a great bunch of leaders out on the field. They were really switched on.”
Robina vs. Yeronga

Yeronga South Brisbane 13.9 (87)
Robina shrugged off its nearest rival in a dominant display on Saturday.
The Roos’ Korey Fulton kicked six, but there were plenty of contributors in a well-rounded team performance.
Yeronga’s Shaun Mugavin kicked two, but their big-name recruits weren’t enough to take down Robina, who have now established themselves as the competition’s benchmark.

“It was a big game. We put a lot of time and effort in to planning for it and happy to walk away and have a good win.”
“Obviously we know they’ve gota lot of big names and you do take ithat into account.
“We backed our game plan and the way that we know we can play.”
“I’ll back my boys in 100% of the time.”
“In the back of our minds, we knew they had good players but if we had 18 guys out there playing good solid football (we could beat them).”
Chris Ryan (Yeronga):
“Really caught unawares- focused on who they recruited in Fulton but quite a few players that crept under our guard.”
“Definitely through the midfield, they definitely smashed us through there.”
“It’s a smaller ground and they just looked a lot better by foot and that’s something we sort of pride ourselves on, our use of the ball.”
