SEQAFL Division 2 Preliminary final preview

Coorparoo and Yeronga will fight it out for the last Div 2 grand final spot tomorrow.

Coorparoo and Yeronga will fight it out for the remaining SEQAFL Division Two grand final spot tomorrow, at Kianawah Rd.

The Kings have bested the Devils in both their matches this season, most recently in the competitions’ qualifying final a fortnight ago.

Yeronga led for most of the match, but Coorparoo stormed home in the last quarter to finish with a 17-point victory and their first shot at a grand final.

Meanwhile, the Devils are doing it the hard way, after their opening loss.

They overran a spirited Kedron side in week two of the finals, but their class proved too strong for the Lions in the sudden death semi.

Their experienced heads, the likes of Shaun Mugavin and Matt Brown, will be absolutely pivotal for Yeronga in the preliminary final, as they have been all year.

Mugavin kicked a bag for the Devils against Kedron and has proved himself an invaluable part of the Yeronga forward line.

Coorparoo’s finals experience will more than hold them in good stead, though.

The Kings finished second this year and are searching for a hat-trick of premierships, and the fact that they have been there, done that, makes them a massive threat.

Ben Gibson has been a superstar for the Kings all season, but it is their even spread of contributors that makes them such a difficult team to conquer.

After last week’s win over Kedron, Yeronga coach, Chris Ryan said he was confident that the Devils could more than challenge the Kings.

“We were in front for 112 minutes in our last match and we feel we lost the game in eight minutes of footy,” he said.

“We know where we need to straighten up and we feel we can beat them.”

Yeronga face Coorparoo on Saturday at 2:15pm at Kianawah Rd Wynnum, with the winner  qualifying for next weekend’s grand final against Robina.
