The 2013 NAB AFL Draft returns to the Gold Coast this November, offering a sensational backdrop to the AFL’s second biggest media event on the AFL calendar.
This year sees the draft return to its traditional format, marking the end of the draft concessions awarded to Gold Coast SUNS and GWS Giants.
This year, three players are eligible to be drafted under the father-son rule.
Luke McDonald, son of Werribee’s Donald, has already been assured a place at the Kangaroos, while Jake Kelly, son of Craig, is eligible for Collingwood and Ryan Lester-Smith, son of Neil, could be selected by Fremantle.
Queensland’s Jonathan Freeman has also secured a place on an AFL list, selected by the Brisbane Lions under their Academy rules.
AFL Club members, along with participants and volunteers in Queensland and Northern NSW are invited to attend the draft, on Thursday November 21.
The event will be staged at the Gold Coast Exhibition and Convention Centre from 5:30-7:30pm (QLD Time) and the AFL Playground will be open to families from 3pm on the front terrace. The 2013 NAB AFL Draft will also be broadcast nationally on Fox Footy.
AFL Queensland is staging a number of activities in the week surrounding the draft, including a Combine for over 200 young male and female athletes, a Level 2 coaching and Talent ID courses.
This year’s crop of AIS-AFL talent will also be on the coast in the week of the draft, for their first 2013/14 camp.
