QAFL squad for VAFA clash named

The cream of the QAFL competition have been named to vie for a spot in the June 8 clash against the VAFA , with a 35-man preliminary squad named today.

The QAFL v VAFA match will headline a state triple-header to be played at the Moreton bay Regional Sports Complex –Burpengary.

Kicking off the day of representative matches, South Queensland, comprised of players from QFA, QAFA, Darling Downs and Wide Bay leagues, will take on the best North Queensland talent, with players from Cairns, Capricornia, Mackay, Mount Isa and Townsville.

A women’s All-Star game, with 44 players vying for Queensland selection, will close the day with a bang.

QAFL coach, Steve Daniel, said the QAFL team was prepared for the challenge of the VAFA side.

“The VAFA hold the title of the best community football league in Melbourne, if not the country,” said Daniel.

“They will have a group of supremely talented footballers – many of whom have tested themselves at AFL and VFL level – and they won’t be putting their hands up to come to Brisbane to play an exhibition match.”

Daniel said the match would be a great opportunity for players to showcase their talents on a big state.

““We believe we have selected a very strong squad to represent the QAFL, and it will be instilled into our group the importance of representing our state in the most professional way possible,” he said.
