Queensland’s AFL clubs have called heavily on the coaching experience of QAFL clubs for the launch of the new North-East Australian Football League in 2011.
No less than four QAFL coaches will be on deck with the AFL talent, with former Broadbeach senior coach Adrian Smith (pictured) signing on as an assistant to Gold Coast Suns Reserves coach Shaun Hart.
This will see Smith working alongside the man whom he replaced in charge at Merrimac in 2009 after Hart quit the Cats to join the Suns.
Also, Morningside’s Clint Watts and Matt Smith and Redland’s Greg Seton-Lonsdale will work under Brisbane Lions Reserve coach Nathan Clarke in the same capacity.
In other movement on the QAFL coaching merry-go-round, Andrew Mellor has gone from Redland to Mt Gravatt as an assistant-coach to David Lake, and ex-Western Magpies senior coach Paul Grentell has joined Morningside to work under senior coach John Blair.
Jarrod Thorp, who stepped into Grentell’s senior coaching role mid-season at the Magpies only to stand down when they chose to drop back to the Pineapple Hotel Cup for 2011, has returned to Mt.Gravatt as another assistant-coach.
Also, in a outstanding confirmation of his commitment to football and the Southport Sharks, long-time senior coach Craig Crowley will take over the U18s after stepping down from a five-year stint with the seniors.
