Coach Development and Education is vital at all levels of competition for the success of teams and clubs, but more importantly, the development of those playing the game.
AFL Queensland recognises that coaches at club land have various levels of coaching experience and often find it difficult to find time to develop and up-skill their personal coaching practices for the benefit of the players, team, and the club.
Therefore, AFLQ can provide the opportunity for clubs to source experienced Coach Developers to visit the club and work with coaches to provide valuable education and assistance in a variety of areas at times that can be negotiated and most suitable for individual needs.
Our AFLQ Coach Developers aim to deliver coach learning methods (coach education, facilitation, assessing, mentoring and reflection) with club coaches within their coaching context at club level. Trained coach developers will work with clubs and club coaches to identify individual performance & learning needs, while targeting whole-club coaching development of coaches within participating clubs. Facilitating meetings whilst enhancing coaching behavioural change and creating a ‘player centred’ environment are key focuses of Coach Developers.
Both male and female Coach Developers are available to work with coaches and teams of all ages from Junior, Youth to Senior coaches.
Key Coaching Development Focus Areas include:
- Coaching Environment – Developing quality coaching environments which are player-centered.
- Relationships – Building and sustaining positive relationships with all stakeholders.
- Training Session Development – coaching methods, curriculum & general organisation
- Game Day – positive coaching practice, player centered coaching philosophy of development over winning (player retention)
- Reflection – Development of reflection & self-awareness
