AFL Queensland launched season 2015 on Friday night ahead of the Gold Coast SUNS and Brisbane Lions NAB Challenge match at Metricon Stadium.
Over 150 members of the Queensland football fraternity, including coaches, volunteers and school ambassadors, had a chance to meet and mingle before the season proper hits.
In his key note address, AFL Queensland Chief Executive Officer, Michael Conlan, spoke to guests about the value of a community football club.
Extensive studies, conducted by AFL Victoria in conjunction with La Trobe University, have shown that for every $1 spent on a community club, there is at least a $4.40 return in social value.
Conlan also spoke about the huge growth of football in Queensland and the rapid rise of female participation numbers (Queensland has the highest female participation rate in Australia, with over 51,000 players).
Following the launch, guests enjoyed a thrilling battle between the SUNS and Lions, which fittingly, for the launch of Queensland football, ended in a draw.
