AFL Queensland wishes to express its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Paul Fowles following his sudden passing on Friday. Paul is survived by wife Melissa and sons Bryce and Brendan.
Paul or ‘Fowlesy’ as he was known to most, was not only an iconic figure at the Burleigh Bombers Football Club, but also a fantastic supporter of Queensland football through his business Allied, where they have been the long term naming rights partner the of the AFL Darling Downs and AFL Mackay senior men’s competitions.
Paul’s service to the game in Queensland spans nearly two decades, having stepped up to be president of Burleigh in 2005 at a time when the club was experiencing some major challenges. He stayed on as president and major sponsor for 14 years before handing over the reins at the end of 2018 to focus on his expanding business. .
Trisha Squires, Head of AFL Queensland said Paul’s contribution to Australian Rules Football in Queensland could not be understated.
“Paul worked tirelessly to ensure the long term future of the Burleigh Bombers and his passing leaves a big void at the club.
“Paul was incedingly generous through his financial support of grass roots football, as well as numerous different charities that not only did he support, but often organised events for.
“He leaves a legacy that I’m sure his family will be extremely proud of”, Squires added.
Details of Paul’s memorial service will be announced in the coming days.
