AFL Queensland celebrates AFL Multicultural Round today, Friday August 7 with the AFL Queensland World Fiesta – a community event celebrating cultural diversity through football, food and family fun.
The event will feature QFA Yeronga vs. Springwood seniors and reserves matches, entertainment from multicultural communities, food stalls, and free activities for families to enjoy.
Ethio-African, Middle Eastern, Malaysian and Indonesian cuisines will be on offer alongside traditional football fare.
Afrobeat will entertain with samba dancers and traditional Brazilian Street Carnival Drums, there will be Japanese drummers, giant games and kids can hit the face painting tent before heading to the AFL inflatable playground.
AFL Queensland State Development Manager Mark Ensor said the event was designed to bring people together under the banner of “many cultures, one game”
“The AFL Queensland World Fiesta is about bringing people together at a community level to celebrate diversity.”
Ensor said that the AFL is committed to reflecting Australia’s cultural diversity, and providing an environment which welcomes people from all backgrounds to enjoy our game.
“No matter who you are or where you come from, AFL is a sport that embraces everyone willing to get involved and have a good time.”
“Multicultural Round Highlights the contribution of multicultural communities have made to the game and welcomes new communities to embrace Australian football as fans, players umpires or administrators,” he said.
