The David Fordham Junior Sports Award has been developed in memory of sports broadcaster – David ‘Fordo’ Fordham. David passed away in December 2011 after a battle with Prostate Cancer and had a lifelong passion for sport and its development.
This Award is designed to provide the winner with a $2,000 bursary to assist them in furthering their sporting endeavours. This bursary is to be spent on specific items to be approved by the organising committee of the Award (e.g. sporting apparel and equipment, travel to Championships, training costs etc.)
This Award is open to all Queensland sportspersons under the age of 18 years who has shown commitment and dedication to their chosen sport. They do not have to be the ‘best’ athlete in their field, but illustrate a solid desire to achieve and further their athletic achievements. They should have also demonstrated good sportsmanship and community spirit where possible.
Applications should be forwarded to [email protected] by Friday 12th September 2014 as the winner will be announced at the ‘Lunch for the Lads’ event to be staged later this year which aims to raise funds for the David Fordham Foundation and Mater Foundation Prostate Cancer Research.
