Head-to-head at Leyshon Park: Played 10 – Yeronga SB won 6; University of Qld won 3; drawn 1
Last time they met: 25 June 2022 – Yeronga SB 3.3 (21) d University of Qld 1.4 (10) at Leyshon Park
Such is the difficulty in maintaining dominance in the Bond University QAFLW that the last two teams to win the premiership will meet in a bottom-of-the-table clash at Leyshon Park this Saturday.
Yeronga has made six changes from the side that gave Coorparoo an almighty scare in Round 4. The wise heads of Jessie Baltus, Camilla Burnett and former baseballer Taylah Welch add both experience and size to the Devils. Holly Mills, recruited from the Toowoomba Tigers over the summer, returns for her second QAFLW match, Kara Stock has been named on the halfback flank, and exciting inside midfielder Kasey Holleran looks to continue her impressive debut season.
For UQ: Jane. Childes. Is. Back. After a stellar 2021 season which established her as one of the QAFLW’s most skilled wingers in both attack and defence, Childes will play her first match since the 2021 Grand Final after missing last year with an ACL injury. Rieley Bloor, formerly of Jindalee, retains her place after debuting as a late replacement in Round 4. Gracie Champion and Ella Reddaway return for the Red Lionesses after short absences.

Ladder leaders Southport make two changes from their Round 4 side, primarily to include Poppy Boltz and Darcie Davies, although at least one change would have been needed following the season-ending injury to Meghan Sullivan. Defender Matisse Hunter is the other to make way.
Maroochydore has made six changes, including a Bond University QAFLW debut to Holly Hurley who has played 29 Reserve Grade matches over the last three years. Club legend Marybeth Banks also makes a rare sojourn to the top grade playing just her second QAFLW match in four years.

WILSTON GRANGE v COORPAROO

Head-to-head: Played 21 – Coorparoo won 16; Wilston Grange won 5
Head-to-head at iiNergy Oval: Played 9 – Coorparoo won 7; Wilston Grange won 2
Last time they met: 25 June 2022 – Coorparoo 8.7 (55) d Wilston Grange 1.2 (8) at Giffin Park
In the wildest off-season ever seen in the Bond University QAFLW, there were two main directions in which players moved: from University of Queensland to Aspley; and from Coorparoo to Wilston Grange. UQ plays Aspley in a week’s time; Wilston Grange hosts Coorparoo on Saturday.
Seven players in Wilston Grange’s starting line-up for Round 5 played for Coorparoo in 2022 in either the Bond University QAFLW or Reserve Grade. Another two have played for the Kings in previous years, one of whom is Emma MacNeill who played for the Gorillas the last time they beat Coorparoo – the 2018 Grand Final.
Wilston Grange will be without captain and centre halfback Chloe Litherland for the first time this year. Centre Maegan Dick, formerly of Mayne in the QFAW, debuted for Wilston Grange last week and retains her starting spot.
Coorparoo look settled with the only two changes from last Saturday’s victorious Southside Cup team being to accommodate the return of Lucy Schneider and Hannah McLaughlin.

Head-to-head at Leyshon Park: Played 3 – Bond University won 3
Last time they met: 9 July 2022 – Bond University 5.4 (34) d Aspley 2.1 (13) at Zupps Aspley Oval
Third place hosts second place at Zupps Aspley Oval on Saturday evening with three current Brisbane Lions available for the Bond University QAFLW.
Neither Charlie Mullins nor Ella Smith have debuted for the Lions in the AFLW yet but both have already shown the benefits of elite-level training when able to re-don the Hornets jersey. Mikayla Pauga has 7 matches including a Grand Final in a Brisbane shirt and returns to Bond Uni for her second appearance of 2023.
Aspley has made two other changes with Holly Mirfield and Lucy Pengelly returning after a week out.
The Bull Sharks are still missing a generation of players on Lions and Suns Academy duty, but are delighted to welcome back former Coolangatta and Queensland Under 19 utility Sally Evans, one of several players throughout the QAFLW who missed 2022 with injury but are returning in the early rounds of 2023.
Bond also gives a debut to Sophie Balcombe, most recently of Broadbeach but originally from Nelson Bay Marlins north of Newcastle.
