Brisbane fans in for NAB Challenge treat

The Brisbane Lions will begin their 2015 NAB Challenge campaign this Saturday when they take on the St Kilda Saints at the Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex in Burpengary.

Both teams will be keen to start their season on a positive note in what is set to be an exciting match between two young sides.

In their first official hit out of 2015, fans will get the chance to get their first look at some of the new recruits and draftees on each list.

However, Saturday will not just be about the NAB Challenge game, with a showcase of community football on display for local fans.

In a curtain-raiser to the NAB Challenge game, the Moreton Bay Lions and Redcliffe Tigers will continue their storied rivalry in the fifth annual Councillors Cup.

Winners of the first three, the Tigers lost last year in a close final 8.14.62 to 6.9.45, played in front of 6000 spectators.

The rivalry will take a new twist this year, as coaching fellows become rivals.

Former Sandgate Hawks coach, Rob Dickfos and his assistant, Ash Humphreys left Sandgate last year and now coach at the Lions and Tigers respectively.

Saturday will also be an opportunity for fans to get a close look at the AFL Queensland junior talent pathway in action, with both male and female games set to be played.

At 11:45am, women’s football will be on display when the youth girls under 18 team take on the state under 21 side.

Following on from this on the south oval, at 1pm there will be a Brisbane Lions under 16 Academy match,

Both games provide a fantastic opportunity to see the next wave of stars come through the AFL Queensland ranks.
