Brisbane started strong, leading by 10 points at the first change, thanks to their effective possession style that cut through the SUNS’ defence. Stephen French was particularly accurate in front of goal, helping to keep the SUNS in contention.
After the half-time break, the SUNS displayed great composure, utilising key passages through the centre corridor to score five goals to the Lions’ three for the term. This effort saw them open a 13-point lead at the final change.
The final stanza was a high-scoring affair, with 10 goals scored between the two teams. Chris Robson shone for the SUNS, but it was the class and leadership of Lions captain Michael Dobbie-Bridges that ultimately made the difference, guiding his team to a thrilling victory.
With this win, the two-game series is set up for an exciting conclusion. The SUNS will host the Lions next Sunday at Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium, with the match scheduled to start at 1:30pm.
