The Brisbane Flames have won the inaugural State U18 Girls Championships at Yeronga over the weekend from the Central Coast and Southern Stars.
Player of the Championships was Megan Hunt from Central Coast Cobras. She polled four votes to with Brisbane pair Caitlin Collins and Tayla Harris, each with three votes.
Gold Coast Suns ruckman Josh Fraser presented winning medallions to Brisbane.
In the final game today, Central Coast Cobras today beat a valiant Southern Stars.
With an extra days rest Central Coast took advantage of a sluggish Southern Stars in the first quarter to lead by 2 goal 1 to no score.
However the Stars were just warming up as they kept the Cobras to only 2 points in the second quarter as well as kick 2 goals 1 to go to the halftime break only 2 points down – 2.3.15 to 2.1.13.
Third quarter saw Cobras again push forward to register two goals, 2 behinds with Megan Hunt and Bre Koenen forming a great partnership through the midfield.
With Stars trailing by nearly 3 goals, they again lifted through some great work from Marnie McGorm on ball and Michelle James at the halfback line.
Stars kicked the only goal in the last quarter to be caught 11 points short at the final siren.
Final Score: 4.7.31 to 3.2.20
