Former AFL star Peter Burgoyne will not play in the NEAFL in 2011.
The NT Thunder announced today they would not be pursuing a contract with the former Port Adelaide premiership player any further.
Burgoyne, 33, met with the Thunder a fortnight ago and expressed a desire to pull on the black, white, and ochre colours.
The NT News reports that the Thunder were in the process of drawing up a contract for the Territorian similar to that of boom recruit Andrew McLeod, nominating an abbreviated number of games to play.
But the club yesterday withdrew the offer, citing a mutual decision between both parties.
The Territory’s season kicks off with a Foxtel Cup match against Morningside at the Gabba next Saturday, followed by the Round 1 NEAFL opener against Aspley at TIO Stadium on April 2.
