Byron Bay is best known for its surf and music festivals but come October the beachside town turns footy-mad with a two-day AFL9s carnival.
The AFL9s Byron Bay Invitational will be held at Cavanbah Centre Byron Bay, a state-of-the-art multipurpose facility on October 22 and 23.
Teams from across the country will compete across four divisions for a share of $16,000 worth of prize money.
The sports fields would take on a “festival feel”, with food vans and an alfresco lounge bar and the two-day carnival will culminate in an afternoon of finals.
AFL9s is the AFL’s social version of the game. It’s a fast, free-flowing game that involves 9 players on each team playing on a smaller field. Best of all, it’s ‘touch football’ with no tackling or bumping.
Whether you are a footy team looking to enjoy a end of season trip, a seasoned AFL9s campaigner or a group of mates wanting to enjoy a kick and sometime in the sun at this iconic beachside location, there is a division available for you.
- Masters Seasoned: It’s all about the fun of playing with the old boys. Open to men aged 45 + at the time of the event. More salt than pepper!
- Masters Mellow: It’s all about the fun of playing with your mates, winning is just a bonus! Men aged 35+ at the time of the event (sorry, no youngins!)
- Masters Max: It’s all about the competition and the glory of winning! Men aged 35+ at the time of the event (plus 2 x players per squad between 30 and 35 at time of event)
- Mixed: It’s all about the competition and the glory of winning! For those who think they’re competitive enough to take out the title. 3 females on field at all times!
