Tickets for the 2013 Toyota AFL Premiership match between Richmond and the Gold Coast SUNS at Cazalys Stadium on Saturday, 13 July go on sale on Wednesday, 8 May 2013.
Sports fans keen to see the Tigers and the Gold Coast SUNS in action are urged to buy their tickets early, with another capacity crowd expected for this year’s game.
This will be the third Toyota AFL Premiership Season Match played in the Tropical North and the final match of Richmond’s partnership with Cairns in bringing their home game to Cazalys Stadium.
AFL Cairns President Gary Young said : “The match is again shaping up to be a great contest, with both teams appreciating the twilight conditions Cairns weather offers. To get the best seats, it’s really worth booking early”.
Queensland Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games Jann Stuckey welcomed the event back to Cairns for its third year.
“The AFL Premiership match in Cairns is a great event for Tropical North Queensland, attracting more than 21,000 people to the fixtures to-date and delivering an economic boost for the local tourism industry,” said Ms Stuckey.
“Last year’s match was a near sell-out and I’m sure the local community is looking forward to welcoming Richmond and the Gold Coast SUNS back to Cairns in July.”
Richmond captain Trent Cotchin is also looking forward to playing in Cairns again in 2013.
“We’re really looking forward to the trip to Cairns to take on Gold Coast. The boys have loved the experience the last two years, and we’ve been up there in November last year for our pre-season camp.
We are looking forward to turning the result of the last two years around and getting a win up there for our north Queensland supporters.”
Gold Coast SUNS captain Gary Ablett is also keen to get back to Cairns for the third match, especially given their 2-0 record at Cazalys Stadium.
“We’ve won both matches in Cairns and we love travelling to Far North Queensland. Last year’s match was amazing, with Karmichael Hunt kicking the goal to win us the match. We’re looking forward to another fantastic contest at Cazalys Stadium,” Ablett said.
