AFL Queensland today released the 2016 South East Queensland Under 19’s Colts fixture.
The fixture sees 19 teams compete in the same competition.
At the end of the home and away season, teams finishing first to eighth will compete in the Division 1 finals, and teams finishing ninth to 14th will play for the Division 2 title.
The 18-round home and away season will open on April 2, before a four-week finals series begins on August 13, culminating in the Grand Final on September 3.
This new structure has allowed for a 40 per cent increase in alignment of colts and senior teams on match day, teams of similar standard playing against each other, and improved travel.
Teams have been grouped into four regions, and will play those in their group twice.
Five new teams have entered the competition this year, in Alexandra Hills, Noosa, Redcliffe, Sunshine Coast South, and the Western Magpies.
AFL Queensland Community Club Development Manager for the Colts and QAFL, Chris Davis, is pleased with the new model and fixture.
“Having more alignment with your senior club is definitely a positive, and that’s what this fixture provides,” Davis said.
“To have 19 teams in the competition is really healthy, and will mean some great, competitive footy is played all year.
“The two-division finals series will also give more players the opportunity to play finals, which is fantastic.”
