Brisbane’s Corinda State High School is the 2013 Brisbane Lions Cup Division Two champion.
Contested at Yeronga yesterday, Corinda defeated Mansfield State High School and take the annual cup (pictured).
Division Two of the Brisbane Lions Cup is the only chance state high schools from the South East get to play 18-a-side full rules footy for the year.
This year the format was adjusted with game time shortened to produce faster, more intense games of footy – and spectators weren’t disappointed.
Eight state high schools fielded teams of senior students to contest the carnival, with games so close, final margins ranged from a draw to no more than three goals.
Especially pleasing to see was the large percentage of boys playing who don’t currently play club AFL footy. Their athleticism transferred well to AFL and they certainly didn’t look out of place amongst their club-playing peers.
A huge thank you goes to all teachers and staff who gave up their time to organise, coach and bring teams to the Brisbane Lions Cup this year.
