COUNTRY START STRONGLY

Queensland made a bright start to the Landmark Australian Country Championships today, despite their long injury list.

Thursday 22 July 2010

Injury-hit Queensland produced a spirited performance on the opening day of the Landmark Australian Country Football Championships in Canberra, winning their opening two games.

Unfortunately, the Maroons faded in the second half of their final game against SA today, losing by 21 points.

It left them in third place on the table overnight, facing clashes with second-placed Victoria and unbeaten ACT in their first games at Ainslie tomorrow.

Mayne Tiger Caleb Brown was the star of the day for Queensland, featuring in the best player list in all three games.

Queensland beat Victoria Districts in the opening game by 22 points and rolled NSW by 17 point in the second.

They led at halftime of the 2 x 17 minute halves on all three occasions and will look to take those fast starts into tomorrow.

State League players Nick Tomlinson and Glenn Screech have also been prominent for Queensland.
