Palm Beach Currumbin Australian Football Club has announced the appointment of former AFL champion and Sydney Swans player Daryn Cresswell as Senior Coach of the club for 2012.

Following an extensive process in the search for a new coach after the successful 5 year tenure of Craig O’Brien, the club received a number of high quality applications for the Senior Coaching position. A number of interviews were conducted and the club was extremely pleased with the high calibre of all the applicants.
Daryn Cresswell was interviewed and put forward a very compelling case for appointment. Outlining his philosophies on coaching and how Australian Rules Football is played in the modern era. He presented a highly planned approach and the selection panel were extremely impressed with his level of experience, both coaching and playing, and his planned approach and methodologies for the upcoming season.
Daryn’s experience includes the following highlights
- 244 AFL games with Sydney Swans over 12 years from 1992 to 2003
- All Australian 1997
- Sydney Swans Best & Fairest 1994 – (also 6 times runner up Best & Fairest)
- Sydney Swans Team of the Century
- Assistant coaching roles in the AFL with Geelong (2004) and Brisbane (2005/06)
- Coach of VFL team Tasmanian Devils (2007/08)
- Coach of Manly Wolves in Sydney AFL Division 1 (2009)
The club is fully aware of issues in Daryn’s personal life over the past few years. The club has discussed these matters with Daryn and is confident that these issues are in the past and is of the opinion that Daryn deserves the chance to rebuild his credibility in both his personal and football life. The club is proud to be able to offer this opportunity to Daryn.
Daryn Cresswell joins a distinguished list of former AFL/VFL players to be associated with the Palm Beach Currumbin Australian Football Club including Craig O’Brien, Ben Hudson, Andrew Raines, Dale Lewis, Wayne Carey, Rick Olarenshaw, Mark Zanotti, Michael Gibson, John Hutton and many others.
The club looks forward to the 2012 season with excitement and anticipation of a successful year. Training will commence later this month following a meet the coach day and BBQ at Salk Oval at a date and time to be advised. Training dates and venues will be advised via the web and Facebook. The selection and appointment of Reserves Coach and Under 18 Coach should be completed this week.
