AFL Queensland today announced Dayne Zorko as the NAB AFL Auskick Queensland Ambassador with the help of over 120 eager young girls and boys from the Coorparoo JAFC Auskick centre.
The Brisbane Lions star will work with AFL Queensland to help promote the program throughout Queensland.
Zorko started his football journey at a Gold Coast NAB AFL Auskick centre and dominated the local Queensland competition for a number of years before getting his chance at an AFL career.
The dashing midfielder is now one of the AFL’s most recognised faces and a hero to many aspiring young footballers.
Zorko said he was honoured to become the Queensland face of the NAB AFL Auskick program.
“Having taken part in the NAB AFL Auskick program when I was growing up makes me feel extremely excited and privileged to be an ambassador,” said Zorko.
“Auskick is a fantastic welcome to the AFL, a pathway that not only myself, my brother and my sisters have followed, but numerous close mates as well.
“I have a number of Auskick memories, but what stands out most was being able to play and meet new friends, many of whom I went on to play junior football with and still have great friendships with today.”
“With the Auskick program continuing to grow from year to year, I’m extremely honoured to be the face of the program in Queensland.”
NAB AFL Auskick National Ambassador Shane Crawford said Zorko was a great addition to the Auskick team.
“Dayne is Queensland born and bred and has developed through the Auskick, junior club and community football pathway” said Crawford
“His dynamic style of football and fun, outgoing personality appeals to both kids and their parents, and he’s passionate about giving our Auskickers the same fun introduction to AFL that he had.”
AFL Queensland CEO Michael Conlan welcomed the appointment of Zorko to the Ambassador role.
“The NAB AFL Auskick program is arguably the best junior sports program in the country and continues to show significant growth in Queensland,” he said.
“Last year over 26,000 girls and boys participated at one of over 800 centres in the state.”
“Dayne is a terrific young man and we are thrilled to have someone with his profile and charisma involved in the program
