The Caboolture Lions are no more.
The newly rebranded Moreton Bay Lions have a new coach to go with their new moniker and they are ready to usher in a new era.
Former Sandgate coach, Rob Dickfos, will be leading the charge for the Lions, taking the reins as head coach for 2015.
Based at the Moreton Bay Regional Sports Centre – AFL Precinct, the Lions opted for a name that fit their home base and kick start a new phase for the club.
Dickfos said he was excited to be helping the club start their new journey.
“Now we’re looking at a new beginning – the Moreton Bay Lions encapsulate the whole of the Moreton Bay region,” he said.
“Based at Burpengary, we want to draw from anywhere and everywhere in that council.
“It’s importan tfor people to have an open mind see what we’re about – we need to learn from the history but don’t shut it out.
‘It’s a new exciting beginning.”
Dickfos said he was immediately impressed by the Lions’ vision when he met officials earlier this year.
“I really liked what they were talking about – first time I’d seen the facilities, which are extraordinary,” he said.
Dickfos said he wanted to help build a team that lived up to the elite-level facilities of hits home ground.
“Our ultimate long-term goal is to push for QAFL selection,”he said.
“We would be wasting our facilities on a div two/three/four side and I’d say the league will be hoping that we have ambition to improve as well.”
Dickfos said he wanted the club to be transparent and was excited to help establish a strong bond between all members of the club.
“we all represent the football club, it’s not us against them, girls against boys or masters, we’re all in it to win it,” he said.
“We’ve got to support one another and help market our club.”
The AFL Queensland Hall of Famer has an extensive coaching background , especially on the north side of Brisbane, having coached at Redcliffe , Mayne and the Hawks, before joining the Lions.
The Lions are holding a meet and greet this Saturday for anyone interested in playing, volunteering or finding out a little bit more about the club.
