The Ferny Grove Falcons JAFC are helping to keep kids playing footy with their satellite teams.
In 2011, the Falcons partnered with Mt Samson State School to create the club’s first satellite program.
An under 8 team trained at Mt Samson during the week, and competed for the Falcons on weekends preventing players from having to travel long distances for training during the week.
The Mt Samson/Falcons team manager, Karen Heffernan said the initiative kept local children in sport.
“Only two of the kids would have gone to play elsewhere and the rest wouldn’t have played at all because their parents didn’t want to travel for training,” Heffernan said.
“It’s nice having the kids play football with their school friends.”
Based on the programs 2011 success it has been extended in 2012.
This season three Falcons teams will be based at Mt Samson consisting of 29 players.
The Falcons have also teamed up with Mt Nebo State School to offer an under 8 satellite team.
The satellite program is helping the club grow, providing them with four new junior teams and 38 new players.
