Queensland representative, Samantha Virgo, had a fairy tale moment, with a goal on the siren clinching Griffith Moorooka’s first QWAFL points.
The last-gasp major , Virgo’s third of the game, drew the Reds level with Coolangatta, and produced the competition’s first draw of the season, 6.5 (41) – 5.11 (41)
Griffith took an early lead at Alexander Park, leading at every break, but Coolangatta showed their trademark fight in the last, edging ahead in the final stages.
Aimee Powell kicked three for the Bluebirds in the thriller, while Maddy Roberts continued her brilliant debut season, as Coolangatta’s best.
Emma Parker was very good for the Reds, along with Helena Thong, while Virgo topped off a solid performance with a memory that will last a lifetime.
Coorparoo kept the race for top spot incredibly tight, with a 16.14 (110) – 2.1 (13) win over Wilston Grange.
Maddie Protheroe and Rachel Smith kicked four each or the Navy Roos in the win while Cleo Davis was superb.
Zillmere’s Cassi Bell had a day out at O’Callaghan Park, with her 11-goal haul setting the tone for the Eagles’ 17.19 (121) – 1.2 (8) win over UQ.
Brittany Downs was one of the best for the Eagles in a dominant display, while Mikaela Anderson and Rachel Anstey also stood up.
Anna O’Keeffe was the sole goal kicker for the Red Lionesses, whose inexperienced side fought hard all afternoon.
Jess Wiggan continued her consistent season for UQ, while rookies Laura Doherty and Paris Hooper were among the best on a challenging evening.
