The 2010 Powerade QAFL grand final will be played on the Gold Coast if two local sides qualify for the biggest game of the year.
AFLQ Operations Manager Marty King met with the 10 club development managers yesterday to inform them of the League’s finals plans.
Should Southport and Labrador qualify for the Sunday 19 September grand final, the premiership-decider will be played at a neutral Coast venue, most likely Broadbeach.
The Cats administration have hosted well-attended Pineapple Hotel Cup grand finals in the past and did an excellent job in catering for the 4000 to 5000-strong crowd that attended Karmichael Hunt’s debut with the Suns last month.
The same applies to preliminary final day should the Sharks and Tigers meet, in what is very much a common-sense decision that will maximize attendances.
If a Brisbane team qualifies for the grand final, then it will again be staged at League headquarters at Coorparoo.
The grand final returned to Coorparoo last season after Carrara became unavailable due to the redevelopment work for the entry of the Gold Coast Suns into the AFL competition.
The 2006 to 2009 grand finals were played at Carrara after the Gabba was trialled the previous year.
