Gold Coast students have once again shown their dominance at the StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup State Finals, held at the Maroochydore Multisports Complex over the weekend. For the second consecutive year, Palm Beach Currumbin State High School achieved a remarkable clean sweep in the secondary school competitions, clinching all four divisions: junior male, junior female, senior male, and senior female.
In the primary divisions, the competition was fierce. St Vincent’s Primary School narrowly defeated Villanova College in a thrilling primary male final, winning by just two points. Meanwhile, Marymount Primary School showcased their strength in the primary female division final making it two years in a row as state champions.
Matilda Smith, daughter of rugby league and State of Origin legend Cameron Smith, won back-to-back Best on Ground medals.

This year marked a record-breaking edition of the StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup, with 16,269 students participating across 745 teams since the competition began in March. The finals highlighted talent from Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Ipswich, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast, as well as five local Sunshine Coast schools, culminating in a spectacular conclusion to the 10-month tournament.
