The Gold Coast might have missed out on the Powerade QAFL premiership, but a Burleigh Waters resident has come up with an AFL grand final win.
John of Burleigh Waters has won the major prize in a competition courtesy of the AFL Queensland website.
He has won a $1500 AFL Grand Final party for this Saturday, which includes a Panasonic Viera HD 50” flat screen TV, a $300 food and drink voucher, and a $200 AFL merchandise voucher.
The competition has run all finals series – all entrants had to do was watch a finals match on Channel 10 or Channel 7, answer a simple question from the telecast, and enter at aflq-new.fspdev.com.
The three runners-up, who all receive a $500 prize that includes food and drinks vouchers plus some free merchandise, were also from the Coasts.
Jacqui of Arundel, Jabe of the Sunshine Coast and Trevor of Mermaid Waters will all be able to load up on Saturday when Collingwood meet St Kilda at the MCG on that one day in September.
A Gold Coaster will take centre stage in the Toyota AFL grand final, with former Broadbeach junior and Southport premiership player Nick Riewoldt holding the key to St Kilda’s chances.
Riewoldt (pictured courtesy The Courier-Mail) was a member of the Sharks’ 2000 grand final combination who ran over the top of the Northern Eagles in time-on of the last quarter, not dissimilar to yesterday’s titanic struggle between Morningside and Labrador.
All entrants to the competition will no doubt be watching the 2010 Toyota AFL grand final to see why it’s in a league of its own.
