The ‘Future Cats’ AFL program has kicked off at Gympie Cats AFC.
The program will run over 6 weeks involving kids in years 4 -7 from Gympie South, Gympie West, Jones Hill and St Patricks primary schools.
‘Future Cats’ is a free program funded by the Queensland Government‘s Department of Sports and Recreation.
The kids are split into their different age groups to practice AFL skills and play outdoors games in between rotations.
The aim of ‘Future Cats’ is to get kids outside and actively enjoying footy with their friends. Not only does the program educate the kids on the game, it also provides the chance to socialize and have fun.
To date, over 140 kids have participated in the program, each have gone home with a bag full of free AFL goodies.
At the end of the program, a Brisbane Lions jumper will be awarded to the most improved player.
