Former Aspley coach Russell Harding has released a statement following his resignation from the Hornets late yesterday.

“It was with regret yesterday that I tended my resignation at 4pm as Senior coach of the Aspley Hornets,” Harding said.

“Unfortunately the culture of the Aspley Hornets Club hierarchy is not conducive to building foundations for a successful long term future.

“Several quality State League players as well as high profile coaches interested in being part of the senior coaching panel decided to avoid the Aspley Hornets after their disrupted first season in the QAFL last year.

“I am disappointed that the Club expected so much in such a short period of time with the young List that we hurriedly assembled before the commencement of the season.

“I was astonished to read that player discontent was suggested as a reason for my departure.

“I organized for the players to meet last week in my absence to provide feedback regarding the coaching strategies and received strong support after that meeting.

“Since my resignation, I have received support from 35 senior players in support of my coaching and future plans for the Club.

“I thoroughly enjoyed working with the players who have a strong desire to learn and develop as individuals and team – they are a committed group of young men.

“I wish the players and Club well for the future.”
