How the ’23 Toyota AFL Premiership season shapes up in Qld

AFL fans in the Sunshine State will have plenty of opportunities to see our great game next season following the recent announcement of the 2023 AFL fixture.

The Gold Coast SUNS will start their season in front of a home crowd at Metricon Stadium for the first time in five years when they host last year’s Grand Finalists Sydney Swans.

In Round 3 they’ll take on defending premiers Geelong at home again, with four of their first eight rounds played at Metricon.

North Melbourne, Melbourne, Hawthorn, Collingwood, and Carlton will travel to the Gold Coast in 2023 with the SUNS hosting nine home games in the first 15 rounds, including the highly anticipated QClash against Brisbane in round 20.

The SUNS travel to the Northern Territory again this season for two matches against Western Bulldogs and Adelaide Crows at Darwin’s TIO Stadium on May 27 and June 3 consecutively.

Meanwhile, the Lions start their season in Adelaide against Port before heading home for a Round 2 clash against Melbourne.

The Lions host Collingwood on Easter Thursday once again at The Gabba for Round 4 then all teams travel to South Australia for the inaugural Gather Round – A Festival of Footy where the SUNS play Fremantle on Friday, April 14 at Norwood Oval and the Lions play North Melbourne the following day at Summit Oval.

The Lions will once again host the biggest teams in the competition at The Gabba in the best time slots while also having six games in Victoria – a first since COVID.

The first 15 rounds have been confirmed with the remaining clashes to be locked in at a later date.
