They might be a small, growing club but the Jimboomba Redbacks unfurled their State Association Division 3 Central premiership with style last weekend.
Before playing their first home game of the season against the Woodsmen in a replay of last year’s grand final, the Redbacks erected a temporary flagpole to raise their premiership pennant.
They also invited a young lady from the local community to sing the national anthem.
Redbacks president Errol Sutherland, a former official with then VFA club Box Hill, was determined to ensure there was plenty of pomp surrounding the occasion.
“It was a really good football day and Errol and the Redbacks should be congratulated for adding a real football culture flavour,” said State Association manager Doug Hale.
The Redbacks capped the occasion by winning the opening game of the season in a canter, downing the Woodsmen 13.9 (87) to 4.4 (28).
