The Toowoomba Tigers are the first Senior Team in the region to announce the appointment of new head coach for 2020. Matt Johnson has been appointed to the role and comes with a wealth of playing and coaching experience which will put the Tigers in a great position to re-build into finals contenders next season.
Johnson has plenty of high level senior football experience, with seasons in the NEAFL and QAFL for Mt Gravatt and more recently Division 1 at Yeronga, where he took out the clubs Best and Fairest in 2017.
In 2018, Johnson made the move to Toowoomba to pursue his passion of Strength and Conditioning coaching, and has worked alongside hundreds of the regions most talented athletes. Completing degrees in Exercise and Sport Science and Business Management as well as being a Level 2 Strength and Conditioning Coach, Johnson has been around many sports and many coaches.
Working with some of the biggest football clubs in Brisbane (Wynnum Manly Seagulls Rugby League and University of Queensland Rugby Club) as well as working with National Level swimmers as Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Toowoomba Grammar Swimming Club, Johnson comes armed with a well rounded coaching and athletic background.
Whilst relatively new to the Darling Downs, Johnson isn’t completely unfamiliar with his new base at Rockville Park having notched up 4 matches for the Tigers in 2019.
Johnson has wasted no time since his appointment with the Tigers Senior Mens and Womens group beginning their pre-season training ahead of the Christmas break.
