The games have been played and the Grand Finalists have been decided for this year’s Brisbane Lions Cup Division Two and Three Competitions.
Year 10/11/12 State High School teams from across Brisbane/Gold Coast have participated in two carnival days with the top finishing teams advancing to the Grand Finals, to be played next Friday 27th May.
The newly opened Yeronga ground at AFL Queensland’s Training and Administration Centre will host the Grand Finals in the first games of school footy at the revamped venue.
The Division Three Grand Final will kick off the day at 10:00am with Brisbane West arch-rivals Corinda State High and Centenary State High meeting in what will surely be a closely contested match. Centenary took the choclates at today’s carnival day at Sherwood, defeating Corinda by a solitary goal. But with Corinda’s consistent form and results throughout the competition, they will be certain to take it up to Centenary at the rematch.
In Division Two, Wavell State High School will meet Benowa State High School in an interesting battle, following the Division Three match at 11:30am. Benowa can rely on a large contingency of club players amongst their ranks, whilst Wavell boast sheer strength and power through their all-rounders from different sporting backgrounds.
Later this year the Sunshine Coast Region and Bundaberg/Wide Bay Region will also run their own regional Brisbane Lions Cup competitions. For more information on these, please contact your local AFLQ Development Officer.
The Brisbane Lions Cup is proudly supported by Quest Community Newspapers.
