The annual Mackay NEAFL Anzac Day Clash has become a highlight of North Queensland’s football calendar.
And when the Gold Coast SUNS and Sydney Swans Reserve teams take to the field this Anzac Day, three local Mackay umpires will be among them.
Jessica Finney, Ryan Villalba and Matthew Stewart – members of the Good Guys’ AFL Mackay Umpires – have been selected to help officiate the match.
Villalba and Stewart will be running the boundary and Finney will line up behind the goals.
Queensland’s State Umpire Manager Garey Fila said it was a great achievement for the Mackay region to have three umpires appointed.
“These three umpires have worked extremely hard,” said Fila.
“They have been standouts within their disciplines and thoroughly deserve this opportunity.
“This NEAFL match is a great chance for talented umpires to get a taste of high level football and shows that the umpiring pathway is open and available to all umpires, regardless of the region they officiate in.”
The Good Guys‘ AFL Mackay Umpires train every Monday evening at Harrup Park Country Club.
