Charlie Maher will make his long-awaited debut in Thunder colours when the Territorians face the Aspley Hornets for the first time this season at Marrara on Saturday night, reports The NT News.
The diminutive and highly-respected Maher has recovered well after knee surgery last year and is also part of Thunder’s leadership group.
Vice-captain Shannon Rusca returns to the side along with livewire Dion Munkara, James McNamee and Waratahs player Jacob Schaper, who has earned himself a spot in the team.
Thunder’s 23rd man this week is one of the Groote Eylandt’s up and coming talents, Basil Bara.
The 21-year-old is captain of the Angurugu Tigers and won the inaugural Groote Eylandt League best and fairest award in 2009.
It will be the second time Basil has represented Territory Thunder after representing NT as a 16-year-old in the 2005 National Championships.
Joseph Collinson comes out of the squad as part of the 23rd man rotation, and Tavis Perry and Mitchell Taylor are both unavailable.
Hamish Simpson suffered a calf injury in last week’s win against Mt Gravatt and will be out for at least a month, and Antal Reti has been omitted.
