McCAULEY TOUCH AND GO

Tuesday 22 March 2011

Outstanding Brisbane Lions Reserves ruckman Broc McCauley is waging a race against time to be fit for the NEAFL season opener against Morningside at Esplen Oval on Sunday 3 April.

The former Southport and Queensland star was in excellent form for the seniors in the NAB Cup and Regional Challenge before injuring an ankle.

The Lions medical staff have listed McCauley as ready to play in two weeks, which might see him available to take on the reigning premiers.

A rookie list player, McCauley was superb for the Lions Reserves through the first half of last season until being slowed by groin problems.

He has improved his game every year since being taken on as a project player by the Sharks, playing for Queensland against Tasmania in 2009 and finishing fourth in the Syd Guildford Trophy count that season.

The Lions Reserves have rescheduled their practice match set down for this weekend.

Originally penciled in for the Western Magpies’ home at Chelmer on Saturday, the Lions will now play Aspley at Graham Road under lights on Friday night from 7pm.
