National platform to showcase Queensland’s Inclusion team

No National Inclusion Carnival? No worries.

Our Queensland Inclusion team will end their 2021 season with an exhibition game on the Sunshine Coast, with the national carnival cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 challenges around the country.

The best players from Southeast Queensland will play in a “Brisbane Lions” v “Gold Coast SUNS” game as part of the StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup at the Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex on Saturday.

The game will be live streamed to a national audience via the Courier Mail.

AFL Queensland Diversity Coordinator, Peter Yagmoor, said Saturday’s game was a reward for all the effort players, coaches and clubs had put into making this year’s inclusion competition such a success.

“It was disappointing to have the National Inclusion Carnival cancelled however everyone involved is excited to come together this weekend for what will be a fantastic game,” he said.

“The talent we have seen on the field this year has been outstanding but more importantly the spirt and passion demonstrated by the players has been inspiring.

“Before Saturday’s game, we will be doing a mini draft to nominate players into the Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast SUNS Inclusion teams.

“The aim of Saturday is for all the players to come together, have fun and enjoy the game in front of supporters watching on the sidelines or on the live stream.”

On Friday, a junior male inclusion fixture between Nambour Special School and Currimundi Special School will also be played as part of the StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup.

27 teams from around Queensland are in contention to be crowned State Champions this weekend in our premier schools’ competition. More details here.
