NEAFL umpires ramped up their pre-season Coorparoo training sessions with a weekend seminar aimed at laying the foundations, standards and expectations for season 2013.
On Saturday, 25 field umpires heard from key speakers AFL Field Umpire Matt Stevic and Aspley Senior Coach John Blair.
Stevic, who umpired the 2012 AFL Grand Final and was named the All Australian field umpire for 2012, facilitated several sessions including training and preparation, the three umpire system and ‘The Laws’ DVD before taking the group through the vision and umpire communication from the fourth quarter of last year’s grand final.
Blair gave the group valuable insight into a coach’s point of view during his presentation on his expectations of umpires.
On Sunday, 50 NEAFL field, boundary and goal umpires attended. Key speakers included a physio/sports scientist and a dietician to ensure the umpires have the knowledge to prepare and recover adequately and can perform at their best.
“The idea of the seminar was to build a team first approach for the 2013 NEAFL umpires’ panels and provide them with the knowledge and resources to ensure they can prepare, recover and train to the high standards we have set for this year” said AFL/NEAFL Umpires Coach, Cameron Nash.
“We commenced pre-season training last November and the seminar provides the final springboard for us to launch into season 2013”.
